This national recognition is no surprise to us locals. Our town’s deep German roots shine every fall as Oktoberfest transforms Fredericksburg into the Polka Capital of Texas. From authentic German food and flowing beer to five lively music stages and family-friendly fun, it’s a celebration that captures the very best of Hill Country spirit.
🎶 A Milestone Year
This year marks the 45th Anniversary of Oktoberfest (October 3–5, 2025). With 26 incredible bands, traditional polka and oompah music, Kinder Park activities for kids, and endless bratwurst and strudel, there’s something for everyone.
🔨 My Role in the Fun – The High Striker Contest
For years, I’ve been involved through the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance (PCAA)—the non-profit that founded Oktoberfest in 1981 and continues to make it possible today. PCAA’s mission is to support local arts and scholarships, and I’m proud to be part of it.
My favorite role? Hosting the High Striker Contest—yes, the classic carnival-style “ring the bell” challenge! 💪 Every year, contestants test their strength to see if they can send that bell clanging to the top. On Saturday, October 4th at 5:00 pm, we’ll even host a Champion’s Contest, inviting back winners from past years to compete head-to-head.
⚠️ Fair warning: this event is not for the weak! There’s serious strategy involved in getting that mallet swing just right. You have 2 minutes to ring the bell as many times as you can—and trust me, the energy is electric.
