Behind the Scenes at The Hive: The Details That Make Our Container Homes Buzz
When I first dreamed up The Hive in Fredericksburg, I knew it had to be more than just a place to stay. I wanted each container home to tell a story—to feel thoughtful, creative, and full of little surprises that make guests smile.
From the start, I leaned into a theme that’s close to my heart: the bee. Not only do bees symbolize community, hard work, and sweetness (all things I love), but they’re also playful and fun to weave into design. Having been a beekeeper and knowing what bees bring to this world I knew I had to have the Hive connection. Over time, The Hive has become a space where every drawer pull, pillow, and art piece adds to the buzz.
Designing with Personality
The walls aren’t just white shiplap. They’re buzzing with character—from a whimsical bee trail painted in flight to honeycomb art tucked above the bed. These small touches give each room its own personality, setting the tone the moment you walk in.

Comfort First, Fun Always
Yes, the container homes are cozy and modern—plush bedding, smart layouts, and plenty of light. But I also wanted to sneak in some joy. That means bright pops of honeycomb colors, bold patterns, and playful art that keep things from ever feeling ordinary.
Hidden Surprises in Everyday Things
One of my favorite parts of hosting is hearing guests say, “Oh my gosh, look at this!” Whether it’s a hexagon drawer pull, a hive-patterned rug, or a tiny bee magnet on the fridge, those little discoveries create delight in the everyday.

Kitchens That Spark Joy
Cooking (or even just morning coffee) should feel special. That’s why you’ll find bee mugs, honeycomb glasses, oven mitts covered in buzzing bees, and even measuring spoons with tiny bee details. It’s functional, but it also makes the space feel alive.

Accents That Tell the Story
The details tie everything together: woven hive baskets, beaded bee coasters, honeycomb planters, and carefully chosen greenery. Each piece is intentional, layered in to make The Hive feel warm, inviting, and a little whimsical.

Why the Details Matter
To me, design isn’t just about how a space looks—it’s about how it makes you feel. At The Hive, I want you to feel cozy, inspired, and a little delighted at every turn. Because when you leave, it’s those unexpected little details you’ll remember.
